Release 6

May 28th, 2010

The seventh release was on May 10th, where Chapter 7, exercises for Chapter 5, and revisions to Chapter 5 and 6 were released. This roughly completes the text that is being released for the short book. However, adjustments, revisions, and slight expansions will continue until the end of June, at which point we will release an all-in-one PDF along with our further revised chapters. Here is what can be expected by the end of June:

  • Exercises for Chapters 6 and 7.
  • A restructured first chapter with an expanded discussion of types of data.
  • Minor modifications to Chapters 2 and 3.
  • Possible revision of data sets used in Chapters 4 and 5.
  • Minor modifications to Chapter 6.
  • Extension of Chapter 7 to include inference of model outputs and interpretation of the y-intercept and slope of a regression line.
  • Revised LaTeX style. We have spent very little time on getting the formatting just right, and we are now developing a LaTeX class specially for the book.

We have also started thinking more about how we would like to structure the releases over the next year. We have three chapters to go for the complete text, and our goal will be to post drafts of all of these chapters no later than the end of March 2011. As for regularity of releases, we will aim for the first day of every other month, starting in September. If you have ideas or suggestions for how we should structure our releases, please add them to the comments below or contact us.
